Biophilic Art.

Finding a sense of place, belonging and home here in Aotearoa, is inextricably linked to Honor’s creative practice. Her current work is grounded in a reverence for light and situated in the field of biophilic art. Biophilic art connects people to nature through art -where nature inspired themes foster well-being, reduce stress, and enhance environments by tapping into our innate love for the natural world (biophilia).

Honor was part of a group of 10 artists from across Aotearoa ,who spent two years connecting via Zoom , exploring Ancestral and Maternal Connections. The slow curatioin culminated in an exhibition, Journeys through the Red Thread: Āta Haere, Āta Titiro, Āta Whakarongo in Wellington, New Zealand, September 2025.

“Inspired by scientific research into foetal-maternal microchimerism, the work explores how both mother and child harbour biological components of each other. I carry cells from my mother and grandmother; with each pregnancy, my children also have fragments of their siblings. These cellular links move and shift within us, connecting us through time and life.”

Moon Circling Sessions.

Painting isn’t just a way to pass time- it is a potent way to reclaim presence.

Moon Circling Sessions offer you a quiet reflective space to engage intuitively with your creativity –using colour and a dynamic fluid wet-on-wet technique. Honor began exploring this Moon circle process as a personal therapeutic outlet and she looks forward to introducing it to you. The sessions offer a conscious moment in time, where water and colour invite insight, guidance and an awareness in a safe held space. All art materials and equipment are provided including a bespoke moon circle booklet.

Honor Stephenson is a multi-disciplinary visual artist.

Her research-led practice is situated in biophilic art notably therapeutic landscapes (grief, solace, bereavement) and place. Her art evocates a reverence for light and a sense of belonging.

She collaborates and exhibits locally and across Aotearoa. Her other passion is installation art. Recent work explored the concept of Foetal maternal micro-chimerism. She is drawn to making work that speaks to the human experience and connections.
